It’s better in glass - make the switch from plastic bottles

Of the world’s total plastic usage, more than 40% is used just once and then tossed away. Plastic bottles are undeniably a large contributor to this statistic. However, two entrepreneurs from Birmingham have come up with a product that allows the content of a glass bottle to be ‘squeezed’ out, meaning that the benefit of plastic bottles (being able to squeeze the sauce), is now available for glass bottles as well.

When taking an unbiased view and comparing glass and plastic side by side, both resources have a negative impact on the environment. However, glass is definitely better than plastic every time, and is more sustainable and friendly to the environment in many ways.

Eco-friendly sauce serving solution

Imagine if you could squeeze a glass sauce bottle like you do with a plastic one. A pair of Birmingham entrepreneurs who were recently on Dragon’s Den have come up with the solution. Not only will their unique product allow you to use a glass sauce bottle as if it’s a squeezy plastic one, but now there are no more reasons to opt for plastic bottles over glass bottles.

The founders, Ian Worton and Peter Neath, “...were discussing the Blue Planet (a television program fronted by David Attenborough) and the ramifications of single use plastics. The common consensus was that there is overuse of plastic bottles including condiment bottles such as the favourite Ketchup and BBQ sauce.”

The product is designed to encourage consumers to switch from single-use plastic to more sustainable alternatives, like glass.

Glass is better than plastic

Globally, there is a movement to reduce the amount of plastic used in packaging and manufacturing. Countries from across the globe have joined the U.S. Plastics Pact network.  The U.S. Plastics Pact, “aims to ensure that plastics never become waste by eliminating the plastics we don’t need, innovating to ensure that the plastics we do need are reusable, recyclable, or compostable, and circulating all the plastic items we use to keep them in the economy and out of the environment.”

Glass packaging is quite simply a better product which is 100% recyclable and can be used many times over.  Glass bottles and jars contain no chemicals that can leach into food and they can preserve the aromas, flavours, and colours of food better than plastic will. Perhaps best of all, is that up to 80% of all recycled glass can be reclaimed.

Glass is sustainable, reusable, and adds an element of quality

Glass can be recycled over and over again, meaning it is a sustainable solution for packaging your products. Not only is glass easily recyclable, but it’s ideal for repurposing as well. Your customer may pay a little more for a glass packaged product, but they have the advantage of a healthier,  better quality product compared to the equivalent delivered in plastic. They also receive a handy container which can be repurposed to store hundreds of different items from fresh food to screws.
